• Retailing in India
Retailing has existed since time immemorial. But it has been in news for the last two decades as it has emerged as an area of specialisation ever since FDI started flowing in and MNCs evinced interest to set up their branches in India to take advantage of the huge markets therein. As a result, retailing has occupied the main slot in the MBA curriculum, and the focus has shifted to developing the necessary skills and competencies to handle several areas of specialisation such as merchandise management, sourcing management, logistics management and supply chain management, and creating value propositions across different verticals.

Retailing requires acute knowledge of processes, markets, customer preferences, competition criteria, and involves huge investments and infrastructure. It involves a transformation bringing with it several challenges and hurdles. This growth engine is hustling.

This book is a compilation of the papers presented in the two-day national conference on “Retailing in India” conducted by JNTU on August 13 and 14, 2013. The research papers and articles have been contributed by research scholars, industry experts, faculty members and students. The objective of the conference is to bring together researchers and students to explore opportunities and challenges in the field of retailing. This conference seeks to highlight the emerging issues in the field of retailing and provide a platform to disseminate with the latest developments.
